Punjab Police Unveils Motive Behind Fatal Shooting of Senior Cop and Accomplished Weightlifter

Days after senior Punjab police officer and Arjuna awardee Talbir Singh Deol was found dead in Jalandhar, the police have made a breakthrough in the case by arresting the main culprit. Police have arrested an autorickshaw driver who shot Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr Deol in the head after a heated argument. A former weightlifter, Mr Deol was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2000.

The accused, a drug addict, got into an argument with the officer when the latter asked the driver to drop him to his village, police said.

The police stated that Vijay Kumar shot Dalbir Deol with his own police pistol, which was later found in his possession. Dalbir Deol's body, showing signs of injury, was discovered on a road in Basti Bawa Khel in Jalandhar, where he was stationed.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner, Swapan Sharma, mentioned that on New Year's Day morning, they discovered Dalbir Singh Deol's body in a questionable situation about 6-7 kilometers from Jalandhar. In connection to the case, an autorickshaw driver named Vijay Kumar has been arrested.

Mr. Sharma explained that a fight broke out because the driver refused to take the police officer to his village. During the argument, Vijay grabbed Mr. Deol's police pistol and shot him in the head, causing his death. Mr. Sharma added that Vijay had previously faced charges related to fights.

Initially thinking it was a hit-and-run, the police checked the CCTV footage and arrested the person responsible.
