Himachal Flash Floods : Chandigarh-Manali national highway blocked

Himachal Flash Floods: Chandigarh-Manali national highway blocked.

According to officials on Monday, the Chandigarh-Manali highway was blocked as a result of flash floods and landslides, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded near Aut in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district.

Heavy rains caused flash floods at Khotinallah near Aut on the  Pandoh–Kullu route and commuters were stranded since Sunday evening.

According to Mandi administration officials, restoration work is underway and heavy rocks obstructing the roads are being demolished with explosives.

They stated that National Highway 21, which connects Chandigarh and Manali, will likely reopen to traffic within seven to eight hours. Commuters have been advised not to proceed towards Mandi till the road is reopened.

The road has been closed since yesterday evening causing traffic jams and many vehicles are stranded on both sides of the Aut and Six Mile roads.

Dharamshala in Kangra received 106.6 mm of rain, followed by Kataula 74.5 mm, Gohar 67 mm, Mandi 56.4 mm, Poanta Sahib 43 mm, and Palampur 32.2 mm.

On Monday and Tuesday, the local weather office issued an orange alert for isolated areas with heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, and on June 28 and 29, a yellow alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.
