Hanuman Temple, Mazar in Bhajanpura, Delhi removed for flyover amid heavy police security.

On Sunday morning, the Public Works Department (PWD) demolished a temple and a Mazaar in Bajanpura Chowk in Northeast Delhi.

The decision to remove the two buildings was taken a few days ago in a "religious committee" meeting and proper negotiations were held with residents and local leaders.

After the structures were removed by the Public Works Department (PWD) amid heavy police security, "everything happened very peacefully," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Joy Tirkey said.

"It was planned a few days back. But the local leaders here asked the civil administration for some time to make some necessary arrangements. Today (Sunday) after we spoke to all of them and held formal talks with them, the two religious structures were removed from here with everyone's cooperation. Even the devotees were here. "The temple was removed by the priest before coming and performing pujas and removing the religious structure," he said.

According to the police, adequate security personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure that the public works department gets all necessary assistance.

A few days ago I wrote to you requesting a reversal of the decision to demolish temples and other religious buildings in Delhi. But today, on your orders again a temple was demolished in the Bhajanpura area,” Atishi tweeted.

She had written to Lt Governor V K Saxena on June 22 to withdraw the decision to demolish religious places of worship.

Last week, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) removed the illegally constructed structures outside the Shani temple in the Mandawali area.
