BCCI announces schedule for VIVO IPL 2021

The IPL Board on Sunday announced the schedule for the Vivo Indian Premier League 2021 to be held in India. Almost two years later, the IPL extravaganza is hosting marquee events with Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

This season kicks off with a high octane clash between champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9, 2021 in Chennai. The world's largest cricket stadium - the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosts the playoffs and finals on May 30, 2021, which promises to be a spectacle. The newly constructed stadium, which hosted India's second Pink Ball tournament in the most luxurious manner at home, will host its first IPL.

Each team has four places to play in the league stage. Of the 56 league matches, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore play 10 matches each, while Ahmedabad and Delhi play 8 matches each. One of the highlights of this edition of the Vivo IPL is that all matches will be played at neutral venues and no team will play at their own venue. All teams will play 4 of 6 places in the league stage.

There will be an aggregate of 11 twofold headers where 6 groups will play three evening matches and two groups will play two evening matches. The evening games are scheduled for a 3:30 PM IST start while the night games will have a 7:30 PM IST start.

In the wake of facilitating the tournament securely and effectively in the UAE a year ago with all wellbeing conventions set up, the BCCI is certain of facilitating the IPL at home with wellbeing and security of players and all individuals included being foremost.

The equipment of the competition is mapped out so that each team travels only three times during the league stage, thus minimizing travel and reducing risk. This year’s home Vivo IPL will be played behind closed doors, and a call will be made to allow spectators later in the match.
