Maharashtra district to decide on lockdown today

With the number of Covt-19 cases in Aurangabad on the rise, officials have decided to meet tomorrow to decide whether to impose locks in the district, a senior official said.

A total of 459 Covt-19 cases were reported from the district yesterday. The total number of infections is 52,103. Meanwhile, the number of active cases stands at 2910. The government also saw 5 Covt-19 related deaths on Friday.

District Collector Sunil Chavan told PTI, "A meeting will be held on Sunday evening to decide on the way to the lockout. After reviewing the cases and the overall corona virus status of the district, a decision on the lockout will be taken."

The meeting will be attended by the Commissioner of Police, the Municipal Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police and other officials.

"Locking may be imposed, but people will be given enough time to prepare themselves for it. The number of patients is increasing. If cases continue to increase at this pace, the number of beds in hospitals will decrease."

Aurangabad Municipal Commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey said the administration was closely monitoring the situation.

Since March 1, there have been 1,737 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Aurangabad district, and 911 patients have been discharged after recovery. A total of 17 patients died from March 1 to Friday night, the official said.


The cases have also increased in other districts of Marathwada region, with 202 new cases reported in Jalna district, 97 in Beet, 108 in Latur, 128 in Nanded, 26 in Osmanabad, 46 in Hingoli and 47 in Parbhani.
