Brazil suspends trials of China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine due to 'adverse effect'
Brazil's health regulator has suspended a clinical trial of China's Sinovac corona virus vaccine, citing a serious adverse event, pleasing President Jair Bolsonaro, criticizing it for lack of credibility amid growing geopolitical tensions over the global race for the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to sources quoted by CNN Brazil in association with CNN, Brazil's health regulator has suspended testing of the Covit-19 vaccine developed in China following a "severe adverse event" involving a volunteer recipient.
Chinese pharmaceutical maker Sinova Biotech launched its Coronavak Phase 3 trials in late July with the aim of recruiting 130,000 volunteers in collaboration with Brazilian Button in Sao Paulo. Phase 3 tests represent the final and most important testing phase before regulatory approval is obtained.
An incident on October 29 led to the decision to suspend the investigation in order to better evaluate the data and assess the risk, according to a report by the Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency
