Bahrain's prime minister Khalifa bin Salman dies at 84

Bahrain's Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has died, according to the state-run Bahrain News Agency, citing the country's state court.

Bahrain's Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, one of the world's longest-serving prime ministers, has died at the age of 84, according to the Bahraini Palace. Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa led his island government for decades and escaped the 2011 Arab Spring protests.

The Gulf state’s King Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa announced official mourning for a week during which flags will be flown at half-mast, the agency said

The prince's funeral will take place as soon as his body is returned. The number of participants in the funeral will be small.
