Red Alert for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka Due to Heavy Rain
Over the past few days, isolated areas in Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu have experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall. Similar conditions were observed in Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Numerous locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka reported thunderstorms. Sporadic thunderstorms also occurred in Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Coastal Karnataka, and North Interior Karnataka.
Red Alert for Tamil Nadu
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Kanniyakumari, Theni, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Virudhunagar, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Dindigul during the same period. The southwest monsoon has advanced into parts of the Maldives, the Comorin area, the south Bay of Bengal, the Nicobar Islands, and the south Andaman Sea. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22 and become a depression over the central Bay of Bengal by May 24.

IMD's rainfall warning
Expect widespread light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema will have scattered rain over the next week.
Isolated heavy rain is forecast for coastal Karnataka on May 20th and 23rd, south interior Karnataka on May 22nd and 23rd, and coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep.
Very heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe on May 23rd; coastal Karnataka on May 21st and 22nd; and south interior Karnataka from May 19th to 21st.
Extremely heavy rain is likely in Tamil Nadu and Kerala until May 22nd.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands will have widespread rain, with heavy rain in the Nicobar Islands from May 20th to 23rd.
