Hezbollah commander in Lebanon has been killed in an Israeli strike, says security official

On Monday, a Lebanese security official mentioned that a leader from the militant group Hezbollah was killed in a southern Lebanon airstrike by Israel. The killing happened as fights between Hezbollah fighters, supported by Iran, and the Israeli military along the border of Lebanon and Israel have gotten more intense.

It comes a week after an Israeli strike killed a key Hamas official in Beirut, and two days after Hezbollah launched a massive missile attack on an Israeli military camp in northern Israel's Mount Meron.

The Israeli military didn't respond right away to the attack. They mentioned that their fighter jets targeted Hezbollah structures in southern Lebanon.

A Lebanese security official, who didn't disclose their identity due to rules, mentioned that Israel targeted a commander from Hezbollah's elite Radwan Forces. The strike occurred in the southern village of Khirbet Selm, hitting a Honda SUV while he was driving, according to the official.

Hezbollah started attacking Israeli military posts along the border on October 8. This was a day after a Hamas-led attack in southern Israel resulted in the death of 1,200 people, mostly civilians. Additionally, 250 people were taken as hostages, sparking a destructive war in Gaza.

Israel bombed the Lebanese border, and at least 151 members of Hezbollah were killed in the airstrikes.
