On Thursday, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (GCPL), a fast-moving consumer goods company, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government. The purpose of the MoU is to establish a manufacturing plant in the state, with an investment of ₹515 crore planned over the course of the next five years.


Top officials of Godrej Group exchanged documents with Tamil Nadu Guidance MD and CEO Vishnu in the presence of Chief Minister Stalin and TRP Raja at the headquarters here.


Godrej Consumer Products is dedicated to constructing a cutting-edge innovative factory that will attain certification from the Indian Green Building Council and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.


The planned facility, which will be situated in Thiruporur Taluk, Chengalpattu, near Chennai, aims to grant the manufacturer of hair colors and soaps expanded entry to the markets in the southern region.


The manufacturing facility will produce the company's primary brands, including Cinthol, Godrej Expert Rich Crème, Godrej Selfie Shampoo Hair Colour, and Goodknight.


The commitment of ₹515 crore over the upcoming five years aligns with GCPL's enduring strategy to actively engage in India's developmental trajectory and our steadfast dedication to providing consumers with reasonably priced, top-notch quality, and inventive products. Through the establishment of this plant, we will generate more than 400 employment opportunities in Tamil Nadu."


"We aspire for this establishment to possess a workforce that is both inclusive and balanced in terms of gender. Our intention involves enlisting 50% female personnel for this facility, alongside 5% representation from LGBTQ and individuals within the people with disabilities (PWD) communities," stated Nisaba Godrej, Executive Chairperson of Godrej Consumer Products.


Functioning as a production center, it will cater to an extensive array of our well-regarded brands and offerings, including Cinthol, Godrej Expert Rich Crème, Godrej Selfie Shampoo Hair Colour, and Goodknight, thereby strengthening our market influence. Of greater significance, our dedication goes beyond mere business growth; we are resolute in our mission to generate a favorable influence on the community and facilitate sustainable progress in Tamil Nadu," stated Sudhir Sitapati, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of GCPL.


Apart from India, GCPL markets household pesticides, personal care products, and hair care brands in emerging economies such as Indonesia, Africa, and Latin America.


The new plant is expected to significantly enhance GCPL's production capabilities and contribute to the company's overall production capacity.
