9 dead, 20 feared trapped after temple collapses in Shimla due to heavy rains



In the past two days, 48 people have lost their lives due to the heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh. Among them, 20 individuals were trapped under the debris of a temple in Shimla. The meteorological department has forecasted more intense rainfall in the state for the upcoming days.


Nine individuals lost their lives following the collapse of a Shiv temple in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, due to heavy rainfall on Monday. The Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sikhu, provided this information. There is concern that many more people might be trapped in a landslide near the temple located in the Summer Hill region. The police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively engaged in conducting rescue operations at the site.


The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhwinder Singh Sugu, has told the officials to make sure that they provide all the help and support they can to the families who are affected.


The Chief Minister has asked everyone to stay at home and avoid going close to areas where landslides can happen. He also requested tourists not to come to the state during this difficult time.


Officials have reported that over 700 roads in the state have been shut down because of landslides caused by continuous rainfall. They also mentioned that an important part of the National Highway, which connects Shimla and Chandigarh, has been impacted by repeated landslides. This situation has resulted in many vehicles getting stuck on the highway.


Today, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the state are closed. Exams for Post Graduate classes that were happening today have been canceled to make sure that students are safe during the heavy rainfall.


The weather department forecasted very heavy rainfall in nine districts of the state on Monday, except for Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti. They also issued a yellow warning for Tuesday.


The excessive rain this season has resulted in a cost of ₹ 7,000 crore for the state, as reported by the administration. In monsoon havoc, 1,376 houses in the state have been affected, and 7,935 houses have suffered partial damage.

Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing heavy monsoon rains since June 24, leading to over 260 fatalities.
