9 Killed In Fresh Violence In Manipur
In the last 24 hours, a new outbreak of violence in Manipur has resulted in the deaths of nine people, including a woman. According to army sources, the incident that resulted in the deaths occurred late at night in the Khamenlok area.
"The gun battle that started around 10 pm on Tuesday lasted for some time. At least nine deaths and ten injuries have been reported so far," Superintendent of Police K Sivakanta Singh said.
Several others were injured and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Imphal.
Earlier on Monday, nine more people were injured in a gunfight between militants and village activists in the same area.
The district authorities have reduced the curfew relaxation time to 5 am to 9 am from the usual 5 am to 6 pm in Imphal East and Imphal West.
At present, curfew is in force in 11 of Manipur's 16 districts, while internet services have been suspended across the northeastern state.
A month ago, at least 100 people were killed and 310 injured in communal clashes between Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur. Army and paramilitary personnel were mobilized to maintain peace in the state.
