Cyclone Biparjoy: Gujarat is expected to make landfall this evening; Rescue operations were carried out by NDRF teams.



With a maximum wind speed of 150 Kilometers per hour, Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make landfall in Gujarat between 4 and 5 pm. Thursday.


According to Gujarat's Kutch Collector Amit Arora, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Railway Protection Force (RPF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Army units are ready to help and support.


The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 33 teams to carry out rescue and relief operations in Gujarat and Maharashtra ahead of the expected landfall of Cyclone "Biparjai" near Jakhau port in the Kutch district.


Authorities have evacuated 74,000 people from vulnerable areas, particularly 120 villages in the Kutch district that are less than ten kilometers from the coast.


More than 20,000 animals have been shifted to safer areas, adequate food supply has been ensured in all shelters and 50 teams have been sent for road cleaning operations.


According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone will make landfall near Jagao Port as a severe cyclonic storm with winds of 150 kilometers per hour.


More than 74,000 people were evacuated from eight coastal districts by the Gujarat government, including 35,822 people who lived along the coast of Kutch district. Curfews were imposed, public transportation was halted, and people were told to stay inside.


Four ships with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) capabilities have been kept on standby by the Navy. Relief teams have also been set up at Porbandar, Okha, and Valsura and are ready to help immediately. If required, helicopters at INS Hansa in Goa and INS Shikra in Mumbai are ready to fly to Gujarat.
