Madras High Court has banned the use of cell phones in temples across Tamil Nadu

The Madras High Court has banned the use of cell phones in temples across Tamil Nadu. The court said that cell phone use in temples has been banned to maintain the purity and sanctity of the places of worship.

The court said that phone deposit lockers should be set up in the temples so as not to disturb the people.

Security officers will also be appointed to ensure compliance with this directive.

The high order was issued following a plea to ban the use of cell phones in the Subramania Swamy temple. The petitioner argued that people were being distracted by mobile phones and that taking pictures of deities was against the rules of Agama. Taking photographs can affect temple security and women may worry about being photographed without their permission. In addition, he demanded that a decent dress code should be followed for decoration.
