Shraddha Walker murder: Delhi Police recovers several weapons used by accused Aaftab Poonawalla

Forensic experts and prosecutors handling multiple mutilation cases suspect that Aftab Amin Poonawala used a large serrated knife to kill his partner Shraddha Walker and cut her body into 35 pieces.

The Delhi Police on Thursday recovered several weapons including knives and a saw used by Aaftab Poonawalla.

The mini-saw used to dismember Walker's body has not yet been found, police said.

Police also seized clothes from Aaftab and Sharaddha's house, which will be sent to the forensic lab. But the clothes they were wearing on the day of the crime are yet to be recovered, police added.

"Whether these knives were used during the crime will be known only after forensic examination," Delhi Police said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Delhi Police took Aaftab Poonawalla to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini to begin the polygraph test. Police had earlier taken Poonawalla for a pre-analytical test, but he delayed the exercise due to a complaint of fever.

Forensic experts said that a lie detector test or polygraph test can take several hours to complete.“We check the health of the person before starting the test. After that, the polygraph test is conducted, but we take a break so that the person doesn't feel anxious or pressured,” said an officer.

Poonawala killed Walker in their rented house in the Bahadi area of Chhattarpur in May this year, cut the body into pieces, and disposed of it over the next two months. However, police are now searching Delhi, Gurgaon, and three additional states in an attempt to find the missing murder weapon, Walker's body parts, and the couple's blood-stained clothes.
