More than 150 firefighters were called in after 50 shops were gutted in a fire at a Delhi market
As many as 50 shops were gutted in a massive fire at Bhageerat Palace Market in Delhi's Chandni Chowk on Thursday.
Locals informed them about the incident around 9.20 pm, after which around 150 firemen rushed to the spot, the fire department said.
Narrow roads in Old Delhi made it difficult for fire engines to reach the spot.
Early morning footage of the market shows firefighters trying to put out the blaze. About 150 firemen were engaged in the massive task of bringing down the deodars in the market.
At present, as the fire has been brought under control for more than 12 hours, 22 fire tenders are engaged in cooling operations, a fire department official said.
"Most of the building has been damaged and officials are using remote control fire engine to douse the fire," Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said.
Efforts are being put in to douse the fire. Fire officials and Police are at the site. Fire has not been brought under control so far. Two floors have been damaged. No casualty has been reported.
