Chhattisgarh officer, 4 crore cash was found among the 3 people arrested in the raid
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized cash and jewelry worth around Rs 4 crore during raids in Chhattisgarh at several locations linked to government officials and businessmen in connection with a money laundering case.
Indramani Group businessman Sunil Agrawal and fugitive businessman Suryakant Tiwari's uncle Laxmikant Tiwari were also arrested in the morning by a central government agency from the state capital Raipur.
All three have been arrested under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and will be produced before a local court, where the ED will remand them for further custody.
An Indian Administrative Service officer Mr. Vishnoi of Batch 2009, is currently serving as the CEO of the Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society. The agency questioned him along with others at its office in Raipur on Wednesday.
The arrests came after the agency launched several raids in Chhattisgarh on October 11 in a money-laundering case involving government officials, industrialists, and private companies in connection with the alleged illegal collection of money from coal and mining smugglers in the state.
The house of IAS officer and Raigarh District Collector Ranu Sahu has also been sealed as he was not found during the search which began on Tuesday.
Ms. Sahu is understood to have informed the agency that she is undergoing medical treatment and has promised to cooperate with the investigation.
The agency also seized ₹ 4 crores in cash and jewelry during the latest raid. Money Laundering Case From the complaint and charge sheet of the Income Tax Department, this Levy is alleged to have extorted money.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Bagel on Wednesday hit out at the Center over the ED raids, saying investigative bodies should not be "misused" for political gain or to defame the state government, its officials, and politicians.
