Kallakurichi schoolgirl Death Case: Order to re-postmortem
The Madras High Court has ordered a re-postmortem in the school girl suicide case which caused tension in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi, 260 km from Chennai.
As the incident sparked violent protests in the district, the Salem police have stepped up security at the school and other areas. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been issued in many areas. The High Court also ordered the police to find out who instigated the violence.
The court rejected the plea of the girl's family that the second round of post-mortem should be conducted by a doctor of their choice.
The police have arrested the principal secretary and reporter of the school in connection with this suicide. Over a hundred suspects have been arrested in the campus riots.
On July 13, the girl jumped from the third floor of the hostel, police said. Her family has alleged that both the teachers tortured and humiliated her mentally. Police said the girl left a note saying she was struggling in several subjects and was humiliated by teachers for her academic performance.
Police said the first post-mortem report mentioned "contusions". The girl's parents alleged that there was a bloody palm print on the wall near where she was found dead. They said he was referring to physical struggle.
In the Cuddalore district, the girl's relatives and people from her village are protesting.
A protest outside the school campus turned violent yesterday. The protesters clashed with the police and set fire to at least 15 buses. Many people, including top police officers, were injured in the incident. The district administration has issued a restraining order till July 31 to prevent any untoward incident.
Also, the court has ordered the police to take strict action against those conducting raids on social media. It is said that future deaths in educational institutions should be investigated by the premier CP-CIT.
