Auto and taxi drivers in Delhi today went on a two-day strike to condemn the hike in petrol prices.
Auto, taxi, and cab drivers' unions in Delhi have decided to go on strike for two days from Monday, condemning the rise in petrol prices.
Various associations of auto and cab drivers have been demanding higher fares and lower fuel prices. The struggle of the Delhi government to ensure that their problems are solved has not been abandoned. The Delhi government has announced that it will set up a committee to study the tariff revision within the deadline.
The Auto and Taxi Association of Delhi, a section of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, has announced that it will go on strike in Delhi on April 18 and 19. They say that in these two days a large number of autos and vehicles will not come on the streets of Delhi.
Rajendra Soni, general secretary of the Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh, in a telephone conversation with ANI accused the central and Delhi governments of not listening to their demands.
He said he had written a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 30 urging him to include a subsidy on CNG prices. We have not received any response from the government and we have been protesting for two days and are now forced to go on strike, ”he said.
Listing the demands of the auto and cap unions, Mr Sony said, "We do not want a tariff hike because it will affect the pockets of the common man. Our only demand is that the government should not increase fuel prices. Subsidy us at CNG prices.
Mr. Soni assured us that the struggle would be peaceful; However, he warned that some pro-government elements could try to disrupt the struggle.
However, many unions, including Auto and Taxi, did not join the strike. Gramin Seva and e-rickshaw will not take part in the strike on April 18 and 19, Chandu Chaurasia, Delhi state president of the Capital Driver Welfare Association, told ANI.
According to Kamaljeet Gill, president of the Delhi Sarvodaya Drivers' Association, Ola and Uber drivers will go on strike from April 18. Ola and Uber's tariffs have not been raised since 2015, which we have repeatedly protested but the government has not seen. In these seven years, CNG and petrol prices have started to rise, ”he said.
Mr. Singh said the struggle would not stop until the issue was resolved. "We have support from Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai. The strikes will start there tomorrow," he added.
