IPL 2022: Tata Group to replace Vivo as IPL title sponsors from this year.

The Tata Group, one of India's largest business conglomerates, will be title sponsor of the Indian Premier League  from this year, the event's executive committee decided at a meeting on Tuesday.

Tata Group is sponsoring the IPL title, ”IPL President Brijesh Patel assured PTI.

The money involved in the deal is not yet known and a Tata spokesperson confirmed the development as "yes" and did not release any further details.

For Vivo 2018-2022 title sponsorship rights of Rs. 2200 crore, but after the Galwan Valley military clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in 2020, the brand replaced Dream 11 in the IPL and took a one-year break.

However, Vivo returned as the IPL title sponsor in 2021 and the BCCI approved the move despite speculation that the company would like to transfer the rights to a suitable bidder.

Vivo has been looking for a partner to build an exit route for the past six months, but could not find an alternative. Known sources say, "The BCCI was absolutely fine in leaving the Vivo space until it appreciated the commitment by getting a suitable replacement on board." In fact, it was the BCCI that helped Vivo and Tata reach an agreement this time.

Industry sources wonder if this is a sign of the times to come. "One would have expected Anacademy or Dream 11 or the crypto-NFT company to come. But it looks like the BCCI has decided to keep some of these companies out or there is currently a kind of enrichment," said the monitoring developments.

BCCI secretary Jai Shah said the board would work with the Tata group to take Indian cricket and the IPL to new heights.

"The Tata Group is an important opportunity for the BCCI IPL as it is a synopsis of global Indian companies operating in more than 100 countries across six continents with over 100 years of tradition. The coming celebrity also testifies to the efforts of the BCCI, "Shah said in an official statement.

"We are really pleased that India's largest and most trusted business team is confident in the IPL development story and will work with the Tata Group to take Indian cricket and the IPL to new heights," he added.
