2,71,202 Covid-19 cases reported in India, schools and colleges are closed.

According to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday, 2,71,202 new coronavirus infections were added in India, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,71,22,164, including 7,743 omicron variants.

The country saw 1,702 new omicron variant cases, the highest in a single day so far.

The death toll rose to 4,86,066 with 314 new deaths.

Karnataka has recorded 34,047 new Covid cases and 13 more deaths.

Maharashtra recorded 41,327 new cases and 29 deaths.8 new Omicron infections were reported in the state.

Goa reports 3,232 new cases and 7 deaths

3,499 new cases and 6 deaths have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir in last 24 hours.

In Gujarat, 10,150 new Covid cases were reported in 24 hours.

Mumbai has reported 7,895 new cases and 11 deaths.

In Kerala, 18,123 new Covid cases and 8 deaths have been reported. The active cassette stands at 1,03,864.

Following the rise in Covid-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday closed all schools and colleges in the state till January 23.Online classes will continue, according to a report.

In the statement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that all schools and colleges have been ordered to close till January 23 in view of the changing circumstances and the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.
