Heavy rains lashed many districts of Tamil Nadu overnight and continued throughout the day today, causing widespread flooding and flooding across the southern state.

The Red Alert issued for Chennai has been withdrawn, indicating the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and the heavy rains that lashed the northern Tamil Nadu coast near Chennai last Thursday evening. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the low pressure area crossed the northern Tamil Nadu coast near Chennai from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm. It is likely to move west-northwest and weaken into a well-defined low pressure zone on Friday morning.

Heavy rains are falling in Tamil Nadu due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal. So far 14 people have lost their lives due to the continuous rains in Tamil Nadu. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to suspend arrivals at Chennai Airport from 1:15 pm to 6 pm due to heavy rains and strong winds in Chennai. Service is currently up and running again.

Schools and colleges in Chennai and other districts were closed for the fourth day, and many parts of the capital were submerged for the fifth day in a row. Since Sunday, a flood of videos has surfaced on social media showing cars and two-wheelers being partially submerged and people floating in knee-deep water in several places.

Several roads in Chennai were flooded on Thursday. Traffic police closed at least seven roads and 11 subways, and created diversions throughout the city for commuters. Some suburban trains were stopped and others were delayed due to water stagnation on the tracks. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has said that flights are operating normally and special arrangements are being made at airports due to inclement weather.

Andhra Pradesh is currently preparing for heavy rains and another low pressure area is likely to hit next week.
