National capital records 243 new Covid cases, three deaths



The Cabinet Secretary will today preside over a high-level review meeting with eight states and union territories, which will reveal an increase in COVID-19 cases, of which 6 cases account for 85.75 per cent of new cases in the country, according to the Union Health Ministry.


Emerging states are Telangana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal.


The ministry underscores that the six states of Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat have witnessed an increase in new cases within 24 hours.


Maharashtra reported 8,333 new cases daily. This was followed by 3,671 new cases in Kerala and 622 in Punjab.    


Maharashtra reported a maximum of one-day recovery with 4,936 newly recovered cases. In Kerala, 4,142 people were rescued in 24 hours and 642 were in Karnataka.


In addition, 113 deaths were reported within 24 hours.


Six states and UTs accounted for 82.3 percent of new deaths. A maximum of 48 people were dead in Maharashtra. It was followed by Punjab with 15 daily deaths and Kerala with 14 deaths in 24 hours.


Seventeen states and UTs reported no COVID-19 deaths within 24 hours, the ministry said.
