Bird Flu in India :
Officials said on Monday that bird flu had entered Maharashtra in large numbers following test reports confirming the death of several hundred chickens and other birds due to the H5N1 avian influenza pandemic commonly known as bird flu in five districts last week.
According to the report of the ICAR-National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases (ICAR-NIHSAD), Bhopal, tests of chicken, crows, parrots, herons and lake egrets have tried positive for the infection.
Pawan Khandge, Parbhani District Disaster Management Officer, said blood samples from 800 chickens that died in the village of Murrumba on Friday were sent to the government veterinary college here and later ICAR-NIHSAT reports proved avian influenza.
