Karnataka: Violence Erupted At iphone Manufacturing Plant In Kolar
Karnataka Police on Thursday arrested Srikanth, taluka president of the Students Federation of India (SFI), in connection with the violence that erupted at Wistron Pvt Ltd in Kolar.
On December 12, violence erupted at Taiwanese manufacturer Wistron, which makes Apple iPhones in India. The incident took place in connection with non-payment of salary for several months.
Employees were angry that the company did not pay the amount promised to them when they joined
"Although an engineering graduate was promised Rs 21,000 per month, his salary was reduced to Rs 16,000 and then to Rs 12,000 in recent months. The monthly salary of non-engineering graduates was reduced to Rs 8,000.
The company claims a loss of Rs 437.40 crore due to the incident and has prosecuted 7,000 people, including 5,000 contract workers.
