Dinosaur Eggs' found in Perambalur Tamil Nadu are ammonite sediments

Dinosaur eggs’ found in Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu have started making rounds on social media and experts have confirmed that these structures are actually ammonite sediment. A group of local geologists and archaeologists visited the site and denied the claim that 'dinosaur eggs' had been found there.

Ammonite (ammonoids) is a large and diverse marine species that arose during the Devonian period about 416 million years ago, according to the Times of India. A team of experts found ammonite sediments in aquifers known as the kunnam Tank.

Due to the history of fossils found in Perambalur and Ariyalur districts, the locals believed that they were dinosaur eggs.

An archaeologist Nirmal Raja said, “I have found a lot of fossils and concrete in the Perambalur district. In 2016, I saw concrete through a road and now we see some here. These are not dinosaur eggs.

Archaeological evidence suggests that dinosaurs lived in the Ariyalur area 6.5 billion years ago. But the remains of eggs are rarely found. Eggs were discovered in non-marine times about sixty-eight million years ago. There are marine fossils found in cement factory quarries.
