 Oxford University vaccine trial suspended

The oxford coronavirus vaccine trial has been temporarily put on hold after a participant developed an unknown illness.

Researchers halted the experiment to investigate whether the patient had an adverse reaction to the vaccine.

The drug company astrazeneca who have been working with Oxford University released a statement on Tuesday night. The statement claims this is a routine action to maintain the integrity of the vaccine trial whilst the unexplained illness is investigated as the trial has moved into phase three in recent weeks.

The drug company has been testing the vaccine on thousands of volunteers including those in the UK,Brazil and South Africa.

The trial is also recruiting 30,000 people in the U.S to test the coronavirus drug.

In July early results from the experiment showed the inoculation was safe and produced strong immune responses in volunters.

Despite the fact more than half of the 1000 participants reported mild or moderate side effects including Headaches and  Muscle pain no harmful effects were recorded.
