Deadly Smog in Uttar Pradesh: Multiple Accidents, 2 Dead, more than 36 Injured
Two bikers lost their lives, and nearly 36 people were hurt in separate accidents caused by smog in Noida and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh early this morning.
On the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, a truck crashed into another truck due to poor visibility. Soon after, a bus traveling from Panipat to Mathura failed to notice the trucks and hit them from behind. Around 12 passengers on the bus were injured and taken to the hospital. Police arrived at the scene to clear the road.
In Firozabad, near Agra, six vehicles collided after a pick-up truck broke down on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The cars behind it could not see the stopped truck due to thick smog. Several people were injured and rushed to Saifai Medical College. The crash happened near Nasirpur. One person involved in the accident said, "We couldn’t see anything, and our car hit another car that had already hit the truck. Then three or four more cars crashed into ours."
In Bulandshahr, a speeding truck hit a bike from behind, killing the rider. The biker, Mansharam, was from Mainpuri. The truck driver has been arrested by the police.
Another accident happened in Badaun when an unknown vehicle hit a bike. The rider, a teacher named Santosh Singh, was on his way to school in Mau. Ten other people were hurt in similar crashes in the area.
Many parts of North India, including Delhi, are dealing with very poor air quality and thick smog. Pollution levels are extremely high, making the air dangerous to breathe. Visibility is very low, and people are reporting sore throats, headaches, and difficulty breathing. Authorities are asking residents to stay indoors as much as possible.
