Massive Drug Bust: 700 kg of Meth Seized Off Gujarat Coast in Operation Sagar Manthan

In a massive drug bust, authorities intercepted a boat off the coast of Porbandar, Gujarat, carrying over 700 kg of methamphetamine, commonly known as meth. The operation, which lasted through the night, ended with the arrest of eight men on board. These men, who claim to be Iranians, are now being questioned to uncover the source of the drugs and where such a large shipment was headed. While it’s hard to pinpoint the exact value, the haul is estimated to be worth between ₹2-5 crore.

The seizure was part of *Operation Sagar Manthan*, a coordinated effort between Gujarat’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The boat was detected near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), which separates international waters. It was then brought to Porbandar for further investigation.

Officials are continuing their search for other suspicious vessels and potential incoming drug consignments. They’re keeping a close watch on sea routes commonly used for smuggling.

There’s also an ongoing investigation into whether the drugs originated from Pakistan. Reports have often accused Pakistan of using drug trafficking as a way to fund terror activities.

This isn’t the first major drug bust in Gujarat. Just three weeks ago, narcotics worth over ₹250 crore were seized from Avsar Enterprise in Ankleshwar, Bharuch district. In another similar case, drugs valued at ₹5,000 crore were confiscated from Aavkar Drugs Limited in Ankleshwar.
