Trump to Meet Indian PM Modi Next Week

Trump says PM Modi will meet him during U.S. visit next week

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his intention to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to the United States next week. As a Republican presidential candidate, Trump commended Modi as “fantastic,” while simultaneously criticizing India for its significant trade abuses.

“He’s fantastic, truly fantastic,” Trump remarked during a town hall meeting in Flint, Michigan, on Tuesday, marking his first campaign event following a second apparent assassination attempt on Sunday.

Trump further stated that numerous world leaders are “fantastic” and “at the top of their game,” leveraging their strengths to secure advantages over the United States. He specifically identified India and Brazil as formidable negotiators in trade discussions.

In the context of a competitive presidential race against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump refrained from providing additional information regarding his meeting with Modi.

Modi is set to visit the United States starting Saturday to participate in a summit of the Quad group, which includes Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, hosted by President Joe Biden.

Additionally, Modi is scheduled to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York and engage with members of the Indian-American community.

During Trump’s first term, he and Modi were recognized for their close relationship. When Trump visited India in 2020, Modi greeted him with a grand rally attended by 125,000 people at the world’s largest cricket stadium.
