5.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Pakistan; Tremors Felt in Afghanistan and India


On Wednesday, September 11, at around 7:28 AM GMT (12:58 PM IST), earthquake tremors were felt in Afghanistan and Pakistan.


These tremors were also experienced in New Delhi, India's capital, and nearby states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and even in Jammu and Kashmir.


The USGS National Earthquake Information Center said the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4, with the epicenter 31 kilometers west of Karor, Pakistan. However, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the magnitude as 5.8.


According to Reuters, GFZ also said the earthquake happened at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles).


India's earthquake monitoring agency recorded the earthquake's location as "Lat: 31.25 N, Long: 70.52 E."


Reports suggest the strong earthquake affected many cities in Pakistan's Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions. Cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lalamusa, Sangla Hill, Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, and Abbottabad felt strong tremors, causing panic among the people.
