Delhi Airport Ceiling Collapse Results in One dead, Vehicle Damage

Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport has been shut down after its roof collapsed, killing 1 and injuring 6

This morning, one person died and six others got hurt when part of the roof at Delhi Airport's Terminal-1 (T1) fell on cars during heavy rain. All flights from that terminal at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the busiest in the world, have been canceled until 2 pm today. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu confirmed this after checking out the airport.

Officials reported that the roof and support beams at a terminal collapsed, damaging four cars parked in the pick-up and drop-off area. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received the report at around 5:30 am.

During the rescue operations, a man was seen being helped out of a cab that had been hit by a falling iron beam.

Mr. Kinjarapu, the new civil aviation minister, announced that after the collapse of the Delhi T1 terminal this morning, all flights scheduled until 2 PM are canceled. Passengers will get full refunds or can rebook. Flights after 2 PM will depart from Terminals 2 and 3.

He visited the site to ensure everyone's safety and promised a thorough inspection of the terminal's structure. Prime Minister Modi is keeping a close watch and has offered full support.

After inspecting the Delhi airport, Mr. Kinjarapu described the incident as "very serious." He announced ₹20 lakh in compensation for the victim's family and ₹3 lakh for each injured person.

Terminal 1, which handles domestic flights for IndiGo and SpiceJet, usually manages around 1,400 flights a day.

IndiGo announced that its flights were affected by the damage to Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport. The incident has caused cancellations because passengers can't enter the terminal.

Passengers already inside can still board their flights, but others will be given alternatives. The disruption is affecting flights across their network, and customers should check their flight status before heading to the airport.

SpiceJet also canceled its flights until further notice. "Stay tuned to our social media channels for further updates," the airline told its passengers.
