6 Children Killed in Haryana School Bus Accident; Driver Suspected of Drunk Driving


In Haryana's Mahendragarh district, near Unhani village in the Kanina sub-division, a school bus carrying students was involved in an accident. Tragically, six students lost their lives, and approximately 20 others sustained injuries. This incident occurred despite it being a holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, with the school being reported as open.


The incident took place when the bus was going to GL Public School in Kanina Nagar to collect the children from their homes. Intoxicated, the bus driver allegedly lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle near Unhani village.


The accident happened while the bus was heading to GL Public School in Kanina town, after picking up kids from their homes. The driver, reportedly drunk, lost control while trying to pass another vehicle near Unhani village.


The bus was carrying approximately 35 to 40 students between grades 4 and 10. Alarmed by the cries coming from the bus, bystanders nearby rushed to the scene and helped evacuate the injured students. These injured students were then transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.


Sources say that five students from the accident died as soon as they reached the hospital. Another student who was hurt was put on a ventilator but couldn't be saved. The situation for some other injured students is still very serious.


The bus driver has been arrested and is under interrogation to establish the exact cause of the incident.

Both the parents of the students and the school staff arrived at the hospital.


We are looking into the allegations of drunk driving and have subjected the driver to a medical test," stated senior police officer Arsh Verma. According to official records, the bus's fitness certificate expired six years ago in 2018.


The police are currently interrogating the school authorities regarding the accident.


A student's parents were also injured in a bike accident while on their way to the accident site. The student's mother suffered a broken leg, while her sister died in the accident.


Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Saini expressed his sympathy for the bus accident. He mentioned that the local government was assisting those who were injured. "I feel sad about the school bus accident in Kanina, Mahendragarh. My thoughts are with the families who lost their innocent children. The local government is here to help the injured. I hope all the injured get better soon," he said in a post on X.



State Education Minister Seema Trikha mentioned that they are also investigating why the school was open on a holiday.
