Indian Navy rescues 23 Pakistanis from hijacked Iranian fishing boat in Arabian Sea
In another piracy incident, the Indian Navy stopped an Iranian fishing boat named Al-Kambar 786 and saved the crew. The crew consisted of 23 people from Pakistan. This operation lasted for 12 hours.
The Navy stated on Friday that nine pirates on the ship surrendered. It's still uncertain if they will be brought to India. Earlier this month, on March 23, 35 pirates were brought to India and given to the Mumbai police in another incident.
The navy's patrol boat INS Sumedha initially stopped the fishing boat on March 29. Later, the guided missile frigate INS Trishul joined in.
Both of these ships were sent to the Arabian Sea for security missions after receiving information on March 28. When the vessel was being hijacked, it was about 90 nautical miles southwest of Socotra, an island belonging to Yemen in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
After more than 12 hours of strong tactical actions following the standard procedures, the pirates on the hijacked FV surrendered. The crew, including 23 Pakistani nationals, have been safely saved.
Indian naval teams then completely cleaned the vessel and ensured it was safe to sail, so it could be escorted to safety and resume normal fishing activities, the statement added.
Earlier this month, the Indian Navy conducted another bold operation and stopped a ship named Ruen, which was sailing nearly 2,600 km away from the Indian coast, when it was attacked by pirates. The Navy made the pirate ship halt through careful actions.
During the 40-hour rescue operation, INS Kolkata effectively compelled all 35 pirates to surrender and secured the safe evacuation of 17 crew members from the vessel without any injuries.
