Devin, the World's First AI Software Engineer, Writes, Codes, and Creates with Just One Prompt


A US-based start-up named Cognition has introduced what they claim to be the world's first AI software engineer. Called Devin, this AI can write, fix problems in code, and put it into action to make working websites and videos.


Devin is like Copilot, a software helper for developers, but it's even more advanced. While Copilot was made by GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI, Devin takes software assistance to the next level.


This AI software engineer can make a website or software program with just one command. Devin can also find and fix mistakes, making it quicker and easier to solve problems.


Unlike simply suggesting code or completing some tasks automatically, Devin can handle and complete a whole software project by itself. It has its own command line, code editor, and browser, so it can work on its own without help.


In a video, Cognition's CEO, Scott Wu, showed how Devin operates. As it works, Devin displays all the tasks it's doing and identifies and repairs bugs by itself while testing the code it's writing.


Scott Wu explained to the media that teaching AI to be a programmer is a challenging problem that involves making complex decisions and considering future steps to determine the best course of action.


He said it's like a game we've all been imagining for years, and now there's an opportunity to program it into an AI system.
