Myanmar Military Aircraft Incidents: 6 Out of 14 Onboard Injured as Plane Skids Off Runway in Mizoram

Today, a Myanmar military plane faced a mishap at Mizoram's Lengpui Airport. The incident occurred during a mission to evacuate Myanmar army personnel who had taken refuge in the northeastern state after facing intense clashes with rebel groups in their homeland. Unfortunately, at least eight people on board suffered injuries during the incident.

Lengpui's tabletop runway, which is 2,500 meters long and situated at an elevation of 1,228 feet above sea level, is quite challenging for pilots. The recent incident involving a Myanmarese aircraft, specifically a Shaanxi Y-8, occurred during landing when the plane skidded off the runway, causing its fuselage to split in half.

The incident occurred around 10:19, with a total of 14 individuals on board the plane.

The injured individuals were taken to Lengpui Hospital, as mentioned by the Mizoram Director General of Police.

On Monday, India helped 184 Myanmar soldiers return to their home country. According to an official statement by Assam Rifles, a total of 276 Myanmar soldiers entered Mizoram last week and as of Monday, 184 of them have been successfully repatriated to Myanmar.

On January 17, the soldiers arrived at Bandukbanga village, located at the trijunction of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh in Mizoram's Lawngtlai district. They sought assistance from the Assam Rifles.

The Myanmarese soldiers were initially brought to the Assam Rifles camp in Parva and later moved to Lunglei for monitoring. To send them back to Myanmar, they were flown on Myanmar Air Force planes from Lengpui Airport near Aizawl to Sittwe in Myanmar's Rakhine State, marking the beginning of the repatriation process.

An official from the Assam Rifles mentioned that the remaining 92 soldiers will go back to Myanmar today. The group, led by a colonel, includes 36 officers and 240 lower-ranking personnel.
