Israel reportedly hit 2 airfields in Syria, air defense activated

Syrian media reported that Israel conducted simultaneous airstrikes on two international airports on Thursday. Israel's Channel 12 later confirmed the attacks. These airstrikes occurred during an ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and the Hamas Group. The conflict began when Hamas launched a series of surprise attacks, including firing thousands of rockets into southern Israel on October 7.

State television reported on Telegram that Israeli aggression struck Damascus and Aleppo airports without giving more information.

As per reports, Israel's airstrikes damaged runways at Syria's airports in cities already affected by war, prompting the activation of the nation's air defense systems.

Reports stated that all flights to and from Syria have been canceled.

Frequent Israeli strikes have consistently led to flight suspensions at Aleppo and Damascus airports, both under the control of Syria's war-torn government.

The recent airstrikes took place during the continued clashes, between Hamas and Israel which have been going on for six days now. The violence started when a large number of Hamas militants entered Israel from Gaza on Saturday leading to the loss of, more than 1,000 innocent lives.

The Aleppo airport was affected by the attacks. Thankfully there haven't been any reported casualties. It's worth noting that the Israeli military typically refrains from commenting on incidents and they haven't released a statement yet.

According to The Jerusalem Post, Israeli airstrikes were aimed at damaging the runways at these airports. These strikes were reportedly in response to alleged shell fire from the Syrian border into Israel on Tuesday night. An Israeli military source mentioned that some of these shells likely landed in open areas in Israel's Golan Heights.
