4 dead, 70 injured as Northeast Express derails in Bihar




Four people died and approximately 70 others were injured when the North East Express train derailed near Buxar in Bihar. The incident occurred close to Raghunathpur station around 9.35 pm. The train, originating from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi, was en route to Kamakhya near Guwahati, Assam.


Teams from the national and state disaster response forces have arrived at the scene of the incident. Officials mentioned that the injured people have been taken to nearby hospitals, and those with severe injuries have been transferred to AIIMS in Patna.


The Railway Ministry reported that train number 12506, traveling from Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya, derailed at Raghunathpur station's main line. Six coaches on the train were affected.


Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav mentioned that he contacted the Disaster Management Department, Health Department, and local authorities in Buxar and Bhojpur districts to expedite relief and rescue efforts.


The Rail Minister mentioned that they would investigate the cause of the derailment. Some sources suggested that overcrowding might have played a role, while railway officials suspected a possible rail fracture as the reason for the train going off track.



The Railway department has declared compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each deceased person's family and Rs 50,000 for each injured individual.


A few cars of train number 12506, the North East Express traveling from Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya, derailed today at 9:35 pm near Raghunathpur station in the Danapur division.



The office of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that they are keeping a close watch on the regrettable train derailment in Raghunathpur.


Helpline numbers have been provided by railway authorities in Danapur, Patna, following the incident.
