Two Army Officers and Policeman Killed in Jammu and Kashmir

An Indian Army colonel, major, and a DSP were killed in a gunfight between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The clash occurred between security forces and hidden terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.

Colonel Manpreet Singh, who served as the commanding officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles (19 RR) unit, Major Aashish Dhonchak, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Himanyun Muzamil Bhat, tragically lost their lives in the firefight.

A gunfight broke out in the Godole area of Kokernag Tehsil in Anantnag district where the terrorists were holed up on Wednesday morning when security forces launched an anti-terror operation.

"The bodies of the police officer and the two army officers have been recovered from the dense forests in the Kokernag area of Anantnag."

"Top officials, including Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai from the Army's 15 Corps and Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, rushed to the site to manage the operation and recover the bodies."

"Last night, the army and police joined forces for an operation after getting exact information about terrorists being in the area."

Troops led by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Commanding Officer and a Deputy Superintendent engaged in heavy firing.

All three officers were seriously injured. Reinforcements were immediately rushed to the area, but due to heavy firing by the terrorists, believed to be well-entrenched, the injured could not be evacuated immediately.

"This is the second gunfight in the last 24 hours. Earlier, one army soldier was killed, and three security forces personnel were injured during a battle with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, according to the police."

Two terrorists were killed in the encounter. The operation is still ongoing.
