Hundreds of students protest against the killing of 2 youths in Imphal, Manipur

In Imphal, Manipur, hundreds of students protested today against the brutal murder of two young students by suspected armed individuals, demanding justice for the victims.

When students attempted to march to Chief Minister N Biren Singh's house, security forces used tear gas and smoke bombs to scatter them, resulting in injuries to several students who were then taken to the hospital for treatment.

The state government made this statement after photos of the two students circulated widely on social media when mobile internet was restored on September 23 after a five-month suspension. However, on September 26, it was suspended again for five days.

During the worst period of communal violence in the state, it's believed that the two students who went missing on July 6 were murdered.

The pictures reveal two students, a 17-year-old girl, and a boy of the same age, seated in what seems to be a makeshift jungle camp of an armed group, within a grassy area.

The girl is in a white shirt and the boy is seen with a backpack and a checked shirt. Two gunmen are clearly visible behind them. In the following picture, their bodies can be observed lying on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Manipur government has urged the public to remain patient and let the authorities investigate the abduction and murder of the two individuals.

On Monday evening the state government made a statement from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's Secretariat stating that they have handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
