Kerala Rain: Red alert in two districts, and heavy rain for the next 4-5 days.



The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Idukki and Kannur districts in Kerala and an orange alert for 10 districts in the state. Schools have been closed in 3 districts due to heavy rains.


Holiday for Colleges in Kerala Tomorrow, 5th July 2023 Due to heavy rains in various parts of Kerala, all educational institutions including professional colleges will remain closed in the Ernakulam district.Kochi/district continues to receive heavy rains.


Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the State Emergency Operations Center will be staffed with representatives from various departments and the National Disaster Response Force. Seven NDRF teams have been deployed in Idukki, Malappuram, Alappuzha, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Pathanamthitta districts.


An orange alert indicates rainfall of up to 20 cm in 24 hours and a red alert indicates extremely heavy rainfall of over 20 cm in a day. On Monday, Kottayam recorded 10 cm of heavy rain, while Kochi recorded 7 cm of rain. Kannur and Alappuzha received 4 cm of rain each.


Vijayan told residents of coastal areas to follow the instructions of the authorities and, if necessary, temporarily evacuate themselves from the dangerous areas.
