Fifteen persons were killed and several others injured when a transformer exploded on the banks of the Alakanda waterway in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Wednesday. The dead included three police investigators and three home guards.

The injured are being airlifted from the high center to AIIMS Rishikesh by helicopter.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the untoward incident. I pray to God for the repose of the souls of the dead and speedy recovery of the injured,” Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted.

The incident has angered the residents of the area, saying that the officials of the Energy Corporation were careless. Local people have also demanded action against them.
