WhatsApp is down in India, unable to send or receive messages

WhatsApp seems to be down for many users in India. Several users raised issues on Twitter, most users are able to open the app but unable to send messages and media files. Naturally, users will not be able to use other services like WhatsApp audio and video calling.

According to outage tracker Downdetector, around 12:30 PM today, October 25, many users started experiencing issues with the WhatsApp mobile app and the web. At the time of writing this article, more than 2,000 users on the website reported problems with the app. Downdetector also points out that 69 percent of users face problems sending messages, while 21 percent of users face problems related to server connectivity. About 9 percent of users face other unknown issues with the smartphone app.

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp and Facebook, has said it is working to resolve the issue. "We know some people are currently having trouble sending messages, and we're working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as soon as possible," a Meta spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, social media users flooded Twitter with WhatsApp down memes. Many users mentioned that they came to Twitter to check if WhatsApp is down for all users.

The exact reason behind the WhatsApp crash is still unclear. Other Meta-owned services like Instagram and Facebook are doing well in India. Users in other countries are also apparently affected by the outage.
