Delhi Sees 'Poor' Air Quality on Diwali Monday

Quality of Delhi's wind is near 'very bad' positions on Monday morning

The quality of Delhi's wind was close to the "very poor" type on Monday morning, as unfavorable weather conditions allowed pollutants to accumulate pollutants while emitting and burning from crackers at the same time.

According to the air quality index measured by IQAIR of Switzerland or AQI, Delhi is now the most polluted city in the world. Pakistan's Lahore is next.

The World AQI website shows that India has the most polluted cities after Qatar. This code includes Delhi.

Delhi's AQI stood at  298 at 6am this morning. An AQI between zero and 50 is "good", 51 and 100 "satisfying", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".

Delhi's air quality approached the "very poor" category this morning as unfavorable weather conditions allowed pollutants to accumulate, while emissions from firecrackers and crop residue burning complicated the situation, news agency Press Trust of India reported.

Nineteen of the 35 monitoring stations in the city recorded air quality in the "very poor" category, while one (Anand Vihar) recorded "severe" pollution levels. Neighboring cities Ghaziabad (300), Noida (299), Greater Noida (282), Gurugram (249), and Faridabad (248) recorded the worst air quality.

The Agency for Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) had earlier predicted that the air quality could deteriorate "very badly" on Monday morning due to calm winds and low temperatures.

SAFAR's founder and program director Ghufran Baig said the traffic conditions will become "very favorable" with wind direction and speed for transporting garbage burning smoke from Monday afternoon.

Diwali night will see air quality drop "severely" and firecrackers will remain in the "red" zone for another day. have exploded like last year, SAFAR predicts.

Production, storage, sale, and bursting of firecrackers have been banned in Delhi this Diwali. Violators will be fined and jailed for six months.
