12 killed, 30 injured in bus fire in Maharashtra's Nashik



12 people died when a bus caught fire in Maharashtra's Nashik on October 7.The injured were taken to the hospital. 


The bus burst into flames after hitting a trailer truck carrying diesel on the Nashik-Aurangabad highway.


"Most of the people traveling in the bus sleeper coach were killed. The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment," Nashik Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Tambe said.


He said that a case has been registered and investigations are being conducted to find out the exact cause of the fire.


Police and an ambulance were called after witnesses said the accident happened around 5.15am.


They said that nothing could be done to save the passengers as the fire was so intense.


Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a ₹500,000 ex-gratia to the families of the dead and said the state would pay for the treatment of the injured.


"May the injured get well soon. Local administration is providing all possible assistance to the victims," Modi tweeted.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each to the families of those who lost a loved one in the accident. ₹50,000 will be given to the injured.



On India's highways, hundreds of thousands of people are killed or injured every year. Most collisions are caused by careless driving, uneven roads and aging vehicles.
