Russia Arrests Islamic State Terrorists Planned to Attack 'Indian Leader'

Russia has arrested an Islamic State (IS) terrorist who was planning to travel to India to attempt a suicide attack against "a representative of India's ruling circle".

"The FSB of Russia has identified and detained a member of the international terrorist organization banned in Russia, the Islamic State, from a country in the Central Asian region, who planned to commit a terrorist act by detonating himself against one of the representatives of the ruling circles of India," it said in a statement.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently monitoring the situation and cyberspace is being closely monitored by relevant agencies.

The bomber - who identified himself as Azamov Mashahont - came to India seeking revenge for allegedly insulting the Prophet Muhammad. According to him, he trained in Turkey in April this year and became a member of IS.

"I flew to Russia from where I was supposed to fly to India. A meeting was scheduled in India. At that time I had to get everything to carry out an attack. I was to be given materials to carry out a terrorist attack. IS's request to insult Prophet Muhammad," he was quoted as saying.

According to the CSO, his teachings were carried out remotely through Telegram messenger accounts and personal meetings with an IS representative in Istanbul. The FSB noted that the terrorist swore allegiance to the ISIS emir before being tasked with flying to India, leaving for Russia, and completing the necessary paperwork.
