16 people, including school students, were killed when a bus overturned in a valley in Himachal Pradesh
Sixteen people, including school children, were killed when a private bus plunged into a ravine in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, a senior official said.
They added that the bus was on its way to Sainj from Shainsher at the hairpin bend near Jangla village around 8.30 am.
The bus was carrying more than 30 passengers, including several school students.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said the entire administration is on the spot for rescue operations. The Chief Minister took to Twitter and said, “I have received news about an accident of a private bus in Sainj Valley, Kullu. The entire administration is at the spot and the injured are being taken to the hospital. I pray to God for the peace of the souls of the deceased and strength to the bereaved families,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted condolence over the incident. In his Twitter post, he said, “Heartbreaking bus accident in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Hope the injured get well soon. The local administration is providing all assistance to the affected people,” he said.

Prime Minister has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of those killed in a bus accident in Himachal Pradesh. Each of the injured will receive Rs. 50,000 each, the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.
