India reports 9,923 new Covid-19 cases, 17 deaths  

9,923 new cases were reported in India, 22.4 percent lower than yesterday, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry.

17 deaths have been reported in the country, bringing the total death toll to 5,24,890.

Of the 17 new deaths, 6 were from Delhi, 5 from Kerala, 2 from Maharashtra, and one each from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh.

Kerala topped the list with 2,786 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 2,354 cases, Delhi with 1,060 cases, Tamil Nadu with 686 cases, and Haryana with 684 cases.

A total of 7,293 patients have been cured in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cured people across the country to 4,27,15,193. The recovery rate is now 98.61 percent.

India has delivered a total of 13,00,024 doses in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of doses administered to 1,96,32,43,003.

A total of 3,88,641 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

These five states have 76.28 percent of new cases, while Kerala alone has reported 28.08 percent of cases.

The Ministry of Health estimates that more than 70 percent of deaths are caused by comorbidities.

So far, 196.32 crore Covid-19 vaccines have been distributed in the country under the nationwide vaccination drive, the ministry said.
