Air India makes an emergency landing following the closure of the Airbus engine midway.
Sources said today that Air India's Airbus A320 Neo, operated by Tata Group, returned to Mumbai airport 27 minutes after take-off due to a technical glitch.
An Air India spokesperson said the passengers were airlifted to their destination Bangalore after the flight was diverted on Thursday.
Sources told the Press Trust of India that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation is investigating the incident. Air India's Airbus A320neo aircraft are powered by CFM International in Leap engines.
Minutes after the flight took off from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 9:43 am, the pilots of the A320neo received a warning of a high exhaust gas temperature in one of the engines.
Sources told PTI that the pilot landed again at the Mumbai airport at 10:10 am with the engine malfunctioning.
When asked about the incident, an Air India spokesperson said, "Air India prioritizes safety. Our personnel are skilled in dealing with these situations. Our engineering and maintenance teams immediately began to investigate the issue."
"The scheduled flight departed for Bangalore with passengers after the flight was rescheduled," the spokesperson added.
