XE variant of coronavirus detected in Gujarat: Government sources.
According to top sources in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a case of XE, a variant of Omicron, a highly contagious strain of the coronavirus, has been detected in Gujarat. On March 13 the patient tested positive for Covid-19 and recovered within a week.
After genetic sequencing, the patient was found to be infected with the XE variant of the coronavirus. However, government sources said the model would be re-examined to confirm that it is an XE variant. According to the PTI report, genetic analysis of the sample is underway, according to the Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, one case of each of the XM variants has been found in Mumbai, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
According to sources, a 60-year-old man from the Gotri area of Vadodara was tested positive on March 11, following which his sample was sent for genetic sorting. The end of the sequence showed that he had contracted the XE variant. They further added that the man did not mention that there was no travel between the states.
The new variant, XE, is a mutant hybrid of two versions - Omicron - BA.1 and BA.2. This accounts for only a small fraction of the cases worldwide at the moment.
According to the World Health Organization, it is about ten percent more prevalent than the PA2 subtype of Omicron.
Until now, the BA.2 subtype of Omicron has been considered the most contagious of Covid-19.
